Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is URAL?
URAL is a modern South Indian food brand making naturally fermented breakfast mixes — Idli Mix, Dosa Mix, and Millet Dosa Mix — inspired by traditional home cooking and made simple for everyday kitchens.
What is the difference between the three mixes?
Idli Mix steams into soft, pillowy rice cakes. Dosa Mix cooks into a thin, crispy golden crepe. Millet Dosa Mix is the same crispy dosa, made with barnyard millets for a heartier, slightly nutty bite.
How do I prepare the products?
Blend one pack with 600 ml of water for 1 minute to form a smooth batter, cover, and let it ferment for 10–12 hours. Steam the Idli Mix batter in greased idli molds for 8–10 minutes, or spread the Dosa or Millet Dosa Mix batter thin on a hot pan and cook until golden and crisp.
How long does the batter need to ferment?
10–12 hours, or until the batter has risen and become airy. In a cooler kitchen, fermenting in an Instant Pot on the Yogurt (Low) setting, or in an oven with just the light on, helps it along.
How should I store the product?
Store unopened packs in a cool, dry place. Once opened, use all contents for best results, and check the best-by date printed on your package.
How many servings are in each package?
Idli Mix contains 20 servings per package. Dosa Mix and Millet Dosa Mix each contain 12 servings per package.
Where can I buy URAL?
URAL is available on Amazon. Use the "Shop on Amazon" button anywhere on this site to find our current listings.
Are the products vegetarian?
Yes. All three URAL mixes are vegan and gluten-free, with no added preservatives.
What are the ingredients?
Idli Mix and Dosa Mix: Rice, Black Lentils (Urad Dal), Fenugreek Seeds, Sea Salt. Millet Dosa Mix: Barnyard Millets, Black Lentils (Urad Dal), Sea Salt. All three are manufactured in a facility that also processes wheat and nuts.
